All Fans is Invited to Join as the Fourth Haim Member.
"Do you know when you'll be speaking to the band?" a text reads. "I wanted to ask if I can join as their extra sister."
There's just one problem: I also wants to be Haim's additional sibling. What's more, we are far from alone. Multiple famous supporters have also begged for the honor.
One thing is obvious an irresistible appeal is happening. Sisters Este, Danielle and Alana began their career performing shows at neighborhood delis with their family. Today, they are multiple Grammy Award nominees.
Similar to the most iconic bands, they're a inseparable unit. Their visuals often depict them striding in sync down the roads of Los Angeles. On stage, they play with such pure happiness you inevitably think, "I want to be a piece of that, too."
"The numerous instances on tour that fans approached us and said, 'Watching you live, I got a drum kit'," states Alana, the most junior of the sisters. "That is the biggest compliment. That's an award in itself. We have succeeded if we can encourage young girls to make music."
"And thus everyone are welcome to be the next Haim sister."
Grammy Recognition
The group are speaking from home, where they're resting up after an extensive tour in for their fourth album, I Quit.
They're currently reeling from the news it's been nominated for Best Rock Album at the Grammys – with Haim the pioneering all-female band ever in consideration for the trophy.
"I follow the nominations every year, so it sort of feels like a surreal movie when your name is called," explains Alana. "I immediately called my sisters to say, 'Am I hearing this correctly or am I hallucinating'?"
The weight of the honor isn't lost on the trio.
"We deliberately set out to make a guitar-driven album this time, so it's a significant achievement," continues Alana. "But we're just appreciative for the pioneers that paved the way."
Personal Turmoil and Laughter
The project came out of a time of transition. All three sisters ended up single, and the music inhabits that odd in-between place where you're happy to be free, but not entirely ready to move on.
The words follow departures and goodbyes. The sisters seek love, but not the relationships they've got. You can hear them working out in real time who they aspire to be.
"I love summary, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is kind of like a mantra. You have to make an effort in shutting out the noise and saying, 'I couldn't care less what people think'."
Development of Music
That newfound confidence called for a fresh approach – more organic and immediate than any of the music the band had done before.
For Danielle, who co-produced the album, that began with the percussion.
"Drums are such a nuanced thing, and I focus so intensely about it," she emphasizes.
"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our memoir," jokes Alana. "Our motto is, our albums don't start until we find the ideal drum sound."
Experiences and Collective Laughter
The band's candor inspired the album's promotional campaign, where the sisters disclosed some of their dating tales.
Someone left Este over a health consideration. Alana shared a story of travelling to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.
"During these heartbreaks, you just feel like there's only darkness," says Alana. "Thus to be able to find humor in those stories and have them tell you wilder stories, it's incredible."
A Secure Path
It's not difficult sense a evolution in the band. Now, Haim are more confident of their position in the industry.
They're major draws, with successful albums and an global fan base.
However the sister act will forever be their primary focus.
"Me and my siblings have been playing music since I was a young child," concludes Alana. "It's like no other path that we were meant to do. And I'm really fortunate we've reached this point and we're still kicking."
