The Starmus Jane Goodall Earth medal will honor to pay tribute to the esteemed scientist and conservationist who passed away recently. It will recognise individuals and groups that protect life on Earth.

Initial honorees will be revealed during the upcoming Starmus event in the Canary Islands, scheduled from 17–22 October next year.

Reports indicate that Jane Goodall, a former member of the festival's board, had endorsed the award’s creation. “The concept behind this award, and Starmus being entrusted to oversee it, originated with Jane,” a representative said. “Her desire was she would like for this to occur. A family member engaged in conservation work expressed optimism that “with guidance and when empowered, people are capable of being diligent stewards of Earth”, citing the initiatives of a foundation which, in addition to its projects, assists young people get involved locally, animals, and the natural world.

“As my late grandmother often reminded us, our daily actions are significant and the responsibility lies with us what type of impact we choose to create,” it was stated. “It is not too late and this medal will offer support and increase understanding about beneficial initiatives that people are making.”
